The Bridge of Sighs connects Doges' Palace (Palazzo Ducale) to an old prison. The name of the bridge stems from the fact that prisoners would catch their last glimpses of freedom from the bridge as they were taken from the Doges' Palace to the execution block in the prison.
Visitors to Venice can view the interior of the bridge when visiting Palazzo Ducale.
